Property Administrator; get to know.

What does a Property Administrator do?

A property administrator can be responsible for several things depending on their department; typically, we break these down into:

  • Sales and Lettings administration - support the sales/lettings negotiators to manage and record their customer requests, assist with property descriptions and bookings.
  • Tenancy administration - support property managers with the drafting and renewal of tenancies, gas safety certificates and energy protection certificates.
  • Office administration - responsible for the upkeep of the office, ordering stationery, booking meetings requests/rooms, and transferring incoming calls.
What qualifications do they require?

It is not a mandatory requirement to have any qualifications as a property administrator however it is possible that you will be asked to prove your knowledge of Microsoft Office, your typing skills/word per minute speed, your ability to craft emails and your knowledge of property based CRM’s during an interview. These skills are transferrable between sectors therefore if you have a passion for property and are looking to transfer your skills into the sector from another, it is worth pursuing!

What is their market value?

On average, a property administrator can expect anything from £20,000 entry-level to £27,000 as an experienced tenancy renewals administrator (where often there is an opportunity to earn commission too)It is worth noting that some administrators want to work their way up into management and therefore specialise in tenancies to become a property manager or sales administration should they choose to become a negotiator; it provides a great stepping stone within any area you wish to specialise in and it is common for people to try a few different areas before finding their suiting path. Alternatively, there are opportunities to become Senior Administrators within larger companies where the responsibility of managing a small team of your own administrators becomes possible and with an earning potential of £35,000+.

What are the working hours/shift pattern?

Often administrators are expected to work Monday-Friday 9-5/6 pmhowever, within an estate agency it would not be abnormal to be asked to work some Saturdays per month.

How often do you recruit property administrators?

We are always on the lookout for entry-level and experienced property administrators; whether you are fresh out of university or have a number of years’ experience, we would love to put you in touch with our clients.

What do you think is one of the advantages of being a property administrator?

The diversity – you can try your hand at everything, some larger brands even offer rotation courses for support staff to find their passion. It is a great way to get your foot in the door within a business that can offer you long-term support and career development and to help you understand your strengths and passion.
