As we edge ever closer to Christmas (I know it’s too early to even think about it, but M&S already have their decorations up!) a lot of people who are unhappy in their jobs will perhaps sub-consciously stop considering moving positions. It is in some ways understandable of course, given the extra stress, busier social schedule and colder evenings that the Christmas period brings, but in my opinion it’s a missed opportunity. I ask, why stop looking?
Yes, you might have thought “end of the year, I’ll sort it out in January.” New year new me and all that. But that isn’t necessarily the best way to go about it. Think about it, how many other people will be looking for a new job in January? And especially any of you taking a step up or looking to try your hand at something new, why wait for the notoriously busier business months to find your bearings in your new role? Finally, have you ever considered the benefits to employers to interview and onboard their new starters for the new year, during the final quarter of the year before? The final few months of the year typically provide more time to undergo training before the pressure is on, to perhaps attend Christmas socials or parties in order to gel with your team and even clients or customers of the company you work for, which will inevitably help with your understanding of your audience.

Come the start of the new year, you’ll be coming off your guarantee and we’ll be starting to see the effects of Brexit sorted out... Hopefully!
